Our Team

Daniel J. Tompkins, MBA, CPA, FCPA, CDFA™
President

Dan started with Tompkins Vargas & Associates in 1986 and has been working in the Public Accounting field for over three decades. Dan received his accounting degree from Eastern Washington University in 1980 and went to work for LeMaster & Daniels accounting firm. Over the years Dan has accumulated extensive accounting and tax knowledge, including estate and trusts, farms, and tax planning for small and medium size businesses. Dan added a Master degree to his already impressive resume, the Forensic Certified Public Accountant designation, and became a Certified Divorce Financial Analyst (CDFA™) in 2012. With that designation, Dan can analyze the financial impact of a proposed settlement agreement to help the party reach a fair and equitable settlement.

David A. Vargas, CPA
Secretary/ Treasurer

David has over forty years of experience in Public Accounting. He attended San Jose State University and after military service graduated from Eastern Washington University with a BA Degree in Business Administration – Accounting. David’s primary areas of concentration is taxation and compliance; specifically Corporations, LLC’s, Partnerships, Private Foundations, Trusts, Estates, and Retirement Plans. David also specializes in tax planning and installation of defined benefit, defined contribution, and other retirement plans. He is also experienced in negotiations, tax planning, and compliance in business acquisitions and mergers.

David J. Vargas, E.A.
Staff Accountant

Joey received his undergraduate degree from Portland State University with a major in Business Administration: Accounting. He returned to Walla Walla in 2007 to join his father’s practice where he earned his Enrolled Agent license and is currently studying for the CPA exam.

Marti A. Reinland, E.A.
Staff Accountant

Marti has been with Tompkins Vargas & Associates, P.S. since 2001. She received her Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration from Washington State University Tri-Cities in 1997 and later passed the Enrolled Agent exam.

Heather McDevitt, E.A.
Staff Accountant

Heather started working for Tompkins Vargas & Associates in 2009 and has been an Enrolled Agent since 2011. She earned her AAAS in Accounting from Walla Walla Community College in 1997. Since then, she has been a full-charge bookkeeper at various small businesses in the local community. Duties included processing payroll, quarterly reports, and sales tax reports. She has worked extensively with QuickBooks Pro - setting up new company files, processing payroll, invoicing, accounts payable, bank reconciliation, and more. She would be happy to help you with your QuickBooks and/or payroll questions…

Debra G. Beebe, E.A.
Staff Accountant

Debbie has 27 years of accounting experience working for Tompkins Vargas & Associates and has been an Enrolled Agent for the past nine years. Debbie especially enjoys working on farm accounts because of a previous opportunity to farm with her husband for 10 years. She also enjoys doing tax returns and financial statements for other types of businesses.

Kathy Utschinski
Office Manager

Kathy attended Central Washington University in 1992 in Music and Elementary Education. In 1993, while looking for a teaching job, she took temporary employment at Tompkins Vargas & Associates, P.S. as a receptionist. 20 years later, as Office Manager, Kathy has learned a great deal about the business of public accounting and enjoys the rapport she has with clients. Office Manager

Annette has been with Tompkins Vargas & Associates since 2002 after a long career in the insurance industry with Lloyd's Insurance in Walla Walla. Annette is the smiling face that greets our clients and is an integral piece of the staff. She provides an assortment of duties including helping put together tax returns to going over those same returns with our clients helping them understand what they are reading. She also takes most of the phone calls and is the keeper of the appointment calendar. If you need to make an appointment with Tompkins Vargas & Associates make sure you talk to Annette.

Mary B. Lytle
Staff Accountant

Mary has over 20 years of experience in accounting and income tax preparation, including 10 years as owner of her own firm. She enjoys all aspects of accounting and has extensive QuickBooks experience. Mary is also experienced in business tax returns and financial statement preparation.

Gerianne Graham

Gerianne recently retired as a Vice President after 30 years with Baker Boyer Bank. Many of those years were in Commercial Lending and as the head of Loan Operations. She also led a team of employees in Deposit Operations for the Bank and worked on Special Projects.
